Reviewing Blue Apron

We are a household with a real honest struggle about buying groceries. I never thought I would be that person, the person who has to have groceries delivered, just to make sure that there is food in the house, but I am so Blue Apron has really saved the day.

With as busy as we are, and currently both taking classes during the week, it is really easy to justify eating out a lot. Past being expensive, eating out that much feels gross. Right before we moved into the house we started trying out some of the ready prep meal options that are now available online.

After a few boxes from multiple companies, I can say with confidence that I really really enjoy Blue Apron. So without further ado, let’s unbox this weeks delivery.

Unboxing Blue Apron

You get the option to pick your meals about a week out, but if you don’t select anything you will receive the standard 3 meal box based on your profile settings. The box ships and you receive a notice letting you know when to expect it on your porch.

For me, making sure everything is properly cooled is SUPER IMPORTANT. I may get home at 6 pm or I may get home at 9 pm and leaving a box of food on the porch for 8ish hours isnt going to work if it is not properly insulated.

As you can see in the photos above, the Blue Apron box is lined with insulation, sealed and packed with ice. The Box itself is very sturdy which makes sure nothing shifts in transit.

The meat items are stored separate from the produce with a cardboard and ice divider. This makes sure that they stay very cold during shipping. Before we found Blue Apron, we ordered from a competitor who didn’t do this and ended up receiving TWO boxes with meat that went bad.

Inside the box itself is ingredients for 3 meals, including perfectly measured portions of things you might not usually keep in your kitchen (Herbs, Ginger, Hoisin Sauce, Etc.). You also receive the recipes explaining how to make the meals included.

What I really love about Blue Apron is that it encourages me to try new recipes and food that I might not ever have purchased on my own. It’s a huge time saver and makes pulling all the ingredients for dinner out of the cupboard super easy and makes sure we eat healthy at least a few nights a week.

In a few days I’ll write up a review of the 1st meal from this kit to demonstrate how easy it was to make.

Win a Test Box

As purchasers of Blue Apron we received the ability to send a box of Blue Apron to any friend in their delivery window! This wasn’t a special blogger deal, they gave it to everyone who already bought a box, but I’d like to share one with one of my readers!  Enter using the form below.
