Blue Apron Box – Week of July 20th

Spending a weekend away traveling is fun, but it means that a lot of the errands I run over the weekend, including groceries, just don’t happen. Blue Apron has become by go-to solution whenever I know a week is going to be busy, so I went ahead and requested having a box sent out this week.

This weeks selections included Rice and Beef-Stuffed Poblano Peppers, Vietnamese Chicken Wings and Squid Ink Linguine Pasta. Typically I wouldn’t have given something with the name ‘Squid Ink’ in the title a try, but that is one of the reasons I love ordering from Blue Apron – it encourages me to try new recipes and foods that I wouldn’t otherwise.

We receive our deliveries on Thursday, which means they typically are not opened until around 7:30 and with a southern facing exposure it has the possibility to be a very hot place for a box of food to sit all day. I love how Blue Apron is very careful about how they ship the contents, making sure that it is well insulated and difficult for items to shift in transit.

This is probably the 8th or 9th box we’ve ordered from Blue Apron and I’ve never been concerned about the contents spoiling in transit. With something as perishable as Shrimp, I’m happy that it is almost always still noticeably chilled regardless of how long we wait to unpack the box.

Blue Apron Recipe Cards

Each kit includes the recipes for the meals for the week, printed on a heavy card stock with step by step instructions including photos. Blue Apron always includes a short letter explaining where some of the inspiration came from for the meal and sharing details about the special ingredients. I love to hang onto these cards after we’ve made each meal, in case I want to make it again or try and source the ingredients myself.

I’ll be sharing our experiences with this week’s recipes in a couple of follow up posts.
