Rather then spend the entire weekend celebrating the CSU victory over the Buffs I needed to spend a little time completing my move from across town.
I’ve down used to the luxury of a walk-in closet and my new room in a garden level log cabin, while full of character, did not have any closet to speak of whatso ever.
Before – Not exactly great storage
The triangle storage space intended for a closet refused to function with a tension rod and installing a standard rod is out of the question due to the exposed rock wall that cuts through the center of the house.
Two trips to Home Depot, one to Lowes and a borrowed drill later I was ready to begin installation on my new custom closeting solution. **Sorry for my low quality photos… I should have a new camera soon.**

1 x 9 pine board – cut to fit (29” for main section 4” for sides) – $4
Closet rod installation rings – $2
Heavy duty wooden dowel – cut to fit – $4
2 L-brackets – $4
75 lb anchor set – $3
500 lb anchor set – $4
1” wood screws – $1
2 self brackets – $6
Total cost: $28
I assembled the initial unit using wood screws. After everything was together, I added the l-brackets because I didn’t fully feel that the screws would be enough support for the amount of clothes I needed to hang.
I then used a drill to place the anchors. The shelf brackets included 3 holes for securing the unit so I placed the 500 lb anchors on the bottom most location and used 4 75lb anchors on the top holes. Together, the unit should be able to support around 750 lbs but I would really fell comfortable placing that much weight on the wall.
After – hanging clothes!
When all was said and done there were still a few things that did not quite work out. The wall itself is too narrow (9″ at the back) to fit an entire hanger, so everything has to hang on an angle. This means that nothing moves back and forth on the rod the way it should but it is still a vast improvement on having all my clothing on the floor.
