The last thing you want on Halloween is for there to be confusion about where the parking is. This easy vinyl tutorial will help all the creatures that go bump in the night know exactly where the broom parking is come All Hallows Eve.
I love decorating my porch and this project can be hung outside or repurposed inside the house for a different look. I happened to have an old planter that was already spray painted to look somewhat like a caldron so adding some florist foam, spanish moss and broom was all I needed to create the parking place.
For the sign I started off by designing the lettering with the Silhouette studio. I downloaded the font Magic School One and purchased a witch template from the Silhouette library. Using a pre-cut 12″ board from Home Depot I painted the color I wanted my letters to appear in first.
Once the paint was dry I used transfer tape to move the design I cut with my Silhouette. You could do the same thing with a cricut or purchase precut letters from the store.
Transfer tape helps you to maintain the spacing and provides a grid for an even layout.
Center the design on the board and use a credit card or rub down each letter. You want to make sure that the vinyl is firmly attached to the board. This is what makes your letter coloring crisp. Once attached, paint over the vinyl your letter coloring (in this case gold). This makes sure that there will be no bleed marks on your finished design.
Allow the board to dry and paint one more time with the main color. For me, this was black. Apply as many coats as you need. I wanted mine to have a bit of a rustic look so I only painted a single coat.
Leave the board to dry overnight or for at least 8 hours. You need to make sure that the final exterior color is extremely dry before removing the vinyl. Use a sharp edge or your weeding tool to pull up each piece of vinyl. You should have clean crisp painted letters underneath.
The hardest part of this project is waiting for the paint to dry! In just a couple of steps you can create a fun and unique sign perfect for your home this Halloween.
