Knowing how to throw your own James Bond-style casino night is about understanding two things – what Bond represents, and how you can deliver on this.
I’ve kept things much simpler than one of Bond’s crazy missions in this how-to – and all you need to do is read the instructions and follow the rules (unlike 007).
What does 007 represent?
If you’re throwing a 007-style casino night it’s because you want to do one specific thing – bring the spirit of James Bond to a home gambling night.
While every fan of Bond has an idea of what he represents, it’s worthwhile thinking about the key things that make 007 (so you can make sure you include them in your casino night):
- Playing by his own rules
- Style
- Games
- Booze
I’ll now explain how you can throw a 007-style casino night that does all of these things.
How to bring 007’s playing by his own rules to your casino night
James Bond is legendary for being someone who plays by his own rules – how many times has he gone rogue? More than I can count.
But while it’s tempting to focus on JB’s lone-wolf mentality, it’s important to remember that 007 does play by the rules – when he feels that it works for him.
When you’re having an evening of casino games, it does work for you to follow the rules. Why? Because if you don’t then the evening will devolve into organized chaos – and not the fun type.
Pick your games and make sure all attendees have a firm understanding of them. For example, if you’re a fan of Timothy Dalton’s Bond then you’ll want to play blackjack – Online Casinos has a great in-depth guide on simple blackjack rules.
How to bring 007 style to your own casino night
Style is probably the first thing every fan notices about 007 – it was certainly the case for me. Our hero always looks the part and the part that he looks is one of classic grace and sheen.
That means you and your guests should suit-up for your casino night.
If you want to keep costs low, then you could base the suit style on what you already have in your closet.
However, I recommend that you pick your favorite Bond, find his most recognizable suit combo, and then make that the theme of your evening – whether that means making the most of the suit you already have or investing in a new one.
How to bring 007 games to your own casino night
We’ve come a long way (baby) and given very few inches to the central part of any 007-style casino night – the games.
When throwing an evening of gambling that Mr Bond himself would approve of, you need to include the casino games that 007 plays.
I spoke earlier about Timothy Dalton’s Bond enjoying blackjack, and it’s true that he likes most casino games. But there are two games that 007 is known for above all else:
- Baccarat: because it’s Bond’s favorite casino game
- Poker: because of that scene in Casino Royale
My recommendation is that your casino evening devotes some time to each of these three games. Follow this link get to grips with the rules of baccarat and this one to understand how to play Texas hold’em (the most popular version of poker).
How to bring 007 booze to your own casino night
Booze is one of the most important parts of any 007 casino night, but needs the least explanation – where would James be without his Vodka Martini?
All you need to know when throwing a home gambling evening that Bond would be happy with are two things – what does he drink and how can you make these drinks.
I spoke already of Bond’s fondness for vodka martini and it’s true that he loves this drink above all others.
However, it’s not the only booze to pass James’ lips and The Telegraph has kindly drawn up a list of James Bond’s ten favorite cocktails.
