How to Make a Tissue Paper Halloween Wreath

How to Make a Tissue Paper Halloween Wreath

If I was going to rank my favorite holidays, Halloween would be at the top of the list (next to 4th of July). I love the creativity the holiday invites, from amazing DIY costumes to the spookiest of yard decor. I’m still working on getting decorating our home down, but holidays like Halloween allow me to put off figuring out exactly how to stage the perfect living room (or give me a reason to stage my living room for Halloween year-round).

I came across a kit for making a wreath out of tissue paper and I couldn’t convince myself that the cost of the kit ($12) was going to save me that much time. My version cost $3.

Wreath Supplies

15 Sheets of Black Tissue Paper – Cut into 2″x2″ squares
1 bottle of White Glue
Cardboard
Center Decoration – I used a skull
Hot Glue Gun & Glue

Step 1: Cut out your wreath shape. I wanted something to hang on our china cabinet so I used two pot lids (perfect circles) to cut out two matching wreath backs.

Step 2: Create lines of glue where you will fill in the tissue paper bunches. Grabbing one piece of the pre-cut paper at a time twist into small rosettes. If you’ve ever created a homecoming float with chicken wire, this is approximately the same technique but a million times smaller (with less chicken wire, cuts and high school drama).

Step 3: Repeat until all the cardboard backing is covered. Space your rosettes about 1/2 an inch apart. Once you have the entire cardboard covered you should be able to see where you need to fill in.

Step 4: Hot Glue your centerpiece (in this case my styrofoam skull) into the center.

Step 5: Fluff the tissue paper and hang. I used command strips to affix the wreaths in the center of the china cabinet doors.

Haunting Halloween Decor

I wouldn’t recommend placing this type of decoration outside, especially if you live in an area where the wind and water may get close to your front door. Inside, this type of decoration is perfect!
