Thoughts & Musings

Clouds

Today I stumbled across the story of Zach Sobiech, an amazing young man who recently lost his life to a rare form of cancer. It’s too often that we are reminded of how truly fleeting life is and this his amazing story and gift for music is both heartbreaking and amazing.

So in honor of Zach and all those who have ever lost a loved one to cancer I wanted to take his words to heart and share this beautiful song with anyone who’s not yet heard it.

“You don’t have to find out you are dying to start living.”

So take a listen, share the message and make a promise to cherish everyday.

Why I love my job

Working in social media has its ups and down. A constantly evolving platform I am challenged with staying current on the changes the websites make to their systems as well as determining the best way to reach potential customers on a website they like to use to connect with family and friends. Add to that the never ending need to validate why ‘playing on facebook’ is an actual functional career path. For more awesome examples of what it is like to work in social media check out this great buzzfeed: ‘26 signs you work in social media‘ Yes I have dealt with every single thing from this list.

Weeks like this one remind me why working in social media really and truly is so amazing.

I had a call this morning where I got to listen to a young man glow over his plan for proposing to his long time girl friend. We are going to res-hare his story and video after it all goes live. I love getting to hear about love stories and with my new job to a certain extent we get to help. Its really amazing.

A few days ago we had a woman reach out because she lost her wedding ring. We are working with our merchandise and sales teams to try and see if we can special order in the piece even though it is an item we no longer carry. I’m really hoping that we are able to find it for her.

At the end of the day, social media is about so much for then selling products (although it does succeed to that point). IT is about fostering community and building relationships and that, that more important piece that doesn’t have a measurable ROI, that’s the  piece I absolutely love.

Eat Drink Create

photo-1

A cloudy Denver afternoon couldn’t rain on the parade the was Eat Drink Create by The Paper Pinwheel and Art Social this evening.

The second of a now series of events, I had the opportunity to join up with this group of crafty creatives and meet some awesome and talented women from around the metro area.

Since moving to Denver in May I haven’t taken a lot of time to blog but only because there has been so much going on since moving. Now that things have settled down a bit I’d like to make a more intentional effort at keeping this blog updated on a regular basis and the first step towards that is getting involved into the community in Denver, enter Eat Drink Create.

This awesome event took place in Wash Park after work and altho the weather was slightly windy there was no lack of fun to be had. As I am a terrible photographer I missed taking a shot of the entire table but the picnic theme of the event was clear from the apple pie to the cherry snack bags. With embroidery kits from Fancy TIger we rounded the night out by creating our own version of the cherry snacks we enjoyed earlier.

Many thanks again to Erin and Lexy for putting on a great evening!

Snow Day

Three days of snow and over a foot of accumulation have earned Fort Collins an afternoon of snow day celebration (anyone else just remember that movie). The photo below was shot from my office window – Right was 9:30 a.m. Left 11 a.m.

Snow Storm 2013

I will be enjoying the rest of the day baking cookies, knitting and finally starting to watch Downton Abbey.

For some cuteness – watch Shiloh play in the snow.
