DIY Felt Flowers

I recently came across a beautiful spring wreath made completely of felt flowers and I knew I wanted to make one for my home. Each flower is unique and making a full set is needed to create the finished look I am shooting for. I’ll be breaking this tutorial up into a couple parts to make it easier for you to follow along. This first flower is not quite a rose, so we’ll be calling it a rosette instead. 

Felt Rosette Supplies 

Scissors
Needle and Thread
Hot Glue Gun
Several Colors of Felt.

Step 1: Creating the Stamen 

Cut a rectangular piece of felt in the color that you want to appear in the middle of your flower. This should be about 8″ long and 2″ wide. [Bigger or smaller dependent on the size you wish for the finished flower to be.

Fold the felt in half, and cut into strips that do not go all the way through the felt. Aim for about 3/4 the way through. 

Roll the cut piece of felt along itself into a tight cinnamon roll. On one side this piece should look like a cinnamon roll, the other the cut ends should splay out. Use your needle and thread to fasten this together. 

Cut out petals using the same, or a different color of felt. After I took this picture I decided I wanted to use 3 colors for this flower, but this is the type of pieces you need for the pink on my finished flower. 

Cut 2 pieces of felt in various sizes. This will go around the outside of your flower center (the white part). Hold this middle piece firmly in one hand and roll it along the outside of the center. 

Hold tightly and use a needle & thread to sew all the way through. You can add several layers of felt like this to fill out your flower, or swap over the the petals. 

Using your hot glue gun, glue petals around the outside edge of the flower. You will need at least 2 layers to fill out the exterior petals. Once the glue is dry, use your fingers to fold the pedals out so the rosette looks full and finished.
