Whats Bzz about Glade Expressions?

As a BzzAgent I get the opportunity to try out new products and share information about those products with my friends.  This month  I bzz’d in to receive samples of Glad Expression’s new Oil Diffuser and Fragrance Mist.

Living in a garden level apartment we suffer from a variety of critters that would like to inhabit our home without rent and it is a constant battle to keep spiders and other bugs out of my bedroom. As a rule, I don’t mind spiders but I would prefer to keep them off my person while I am asleep.

I had heard that the scent of lavender was a deterrent for these eight-legged friends so when I received my BzzKit I decided to pick up the Lavender and Juniper berry set. I placed the diffuser on my nightstand and have since not seen a single spider in my bedroom. I have found them throughout the rest of the house so I can only assume that means the scent is working to keep them out.

The diffusers are intended to last 30 days, but now that I am nearing the 2 month mark I am pleased to see that the scent, while less intense, continues to fill the air. Not sure if I will be purchasing the refill or not because they are pretty pricy, we’ll see how the spider population fares after this one runs out – if they return it is definitely worth the investment.

As a BzzAgent I received complimentary samples of this product and discounted coupons. My opinions are my own and I have not been compensated for my opinion or trying the product.

Gooey Mac & Cheese

I had some leftover pasta from a previous meal so I decided to pull together one of my favorite recipes for the blustery fall evening. This recipe is great as both a side or a stand alone dish. If I had already cooked the chicken I probably would have just mixed it in rather than serving the Mac & Cheese as a side.

Ingredients

1-2 Cups Cooked Whole Wheat Pasta (I used penne)

1/2 Cup Fat Free Milk

1 1/2 Cup Shredded Cheese (use your favorite type)

1/3 Cup Italian Bread Crumbs

3/4 Stick of Margarine (not pictured)

Pre-heat your oven to 375

1. Melt the margarine in a medium sized pot.
2. Lower the heat to 3-4 on your stove and add the milk. Bring to a low boil.
3. Add the cheese and stir until melted.
4. Add the Bread Crumbs and allow to simmer. This will thicken up the mixture.
5. Add the pasta and mix together until combined well.
6. Pour into an appropriately sized casserole dish.
7. Sprinkle extra cheese over the top and place into the oven to bake.
8. Cook for 45 minutes or until the top is brown and delicious looking.

A Labor-ous Day Project

Rather then spend the entire weekend celebrating the CSU victory over the Buffs I needed to spend a little time completing my move from across town.

I’ve down used to the luxury of a walk-in closet and my new room in a garden level log cabin, while full of character, did not have any closet to speak of whatso ever.

Before – Not exactly great storage

The triangle storage space intended for a closet refused to function with a tension rod and installing a standard rod is out of the question due to the exposed rock wall that cuts through the center of the house.

Two trips to Home Depot, one to Lowes and a borrowed drill later I was ready to begin installation on my new custom closeting solution. **Sorry for my low quality photos… I should have a new camera soon.**

Materials list

Materials

1 x 9 pine board – cut to fit (29” for main section 4” for sides) – $4
Closet rod installation rings – $2
Heavy duty wooden dowel – cut to fit – $4
2 L-brackets – $4
75 lb anchor set – $3
500 lb anchor set – $4
1” wood screws – $1
2 self brackets – $6

Total cost: $28

I assembled the initial unit using wood screws. After everything was together, I added the l-brackets because I didn’t fully feel that the screws would be enough support for the amount of clothes I needed to hang.

I then used a drill to place the anchors. The shelf brackets included 3 holes for securing the unit so I placed the 500 lb anchors on the bottom most location and used 4 75lb anchors on the top holes.  Together, the unit should be able to support around 750 lbs but I would really fell comfortable placing that much weight on the wall.

After – hanging clothes!

When all was said and done there were still a few things that did not quite work out. The wall itself is too narrow (9″ at the back) to fit an entire hanger, so everything has to hang on an angle. This means that nothing moves back and forth on the rod the way it should but it is still a vast improvement on having all my clothing on the floor.
