A few days ago I shared a post about unboxing our most recent Blue Apron meal box. Today, I wanted to share my blue apron cod review. This was the first meal from that kit – Seared Cod with Spring Vegetables & Lemon Mustard Vinaigrette.
I love seafood, but buying it to cook isn’t something I do regularly. Cod in particular is not something I would ever think to purchase, unless it was a part of fish sticks.
The recipe in this week’s kit included a lot of items I wouldn’t use in a meal on my own:
- Radishes – Typically comes in a bunch and if I’m only using a few it seems wasteful to buy that many.
- Capers – Honestly I’m not totally sure I know that they are even now
- Shallots – Usually I substitute onions if a recipe calls for shallots.
The most difficult part of this recipe (and most of Blue Apron’s Recipes) was preparing all the produce. Mincing & dicing veggies helps them cook faster, but take’s a bit of time.
One of my favorite things about Blue Apron is that for the most part, everything comes pre-portioned (see the butter and dijon above). That means I don’t have to dirty more dishes or hang on to a condiment I don’t like.
Also amazing is that the Blue Apron recipe sheet includes pictures of each of the steps and what it should look like. They’ve done a much better job showcasing the ‘process’ of the recipe, so you should probably head over to the Blue Apron Cookbook if you’d like the exact steps for making Seared Cod – also I TOTALLY FORGOT to take photos while I was cooking.

So MAGIC – Here is my finished meal.
The flavors of this dish really came together well and tasted extremely fresh and light. Want to read more about what you should expect if you order from Blue Apron?Go back to the original Blue Apron Review.
