Your Love Is So Cheesy – DIY Cheese Gift Set

Celebrating an engagement with a DIY Cheese Gift Set

My cousin Jeannie and her boyfriend Andy got engaged over 4th of July weekend and we celebrated their engagement at a fabulous wine and cheese party last weekend. They’ve been dating for several years now and I’m so excited to be a part of their wedding party and celebrate with them as they plan their wedding.

The engagement party was a wine & cheese theme so I knew I wanted to give them a Hickory Farms Cheese Sampler Gift Box to enjoy alongside a fun DIY Cheese Board. Personalizing a Cheese Board with a bit of wood burning takes just a few minutes and is the perfect addition to any gift set

I picked up this cheese board pre-finished and ready to use. It’s important to find board with raw wood, otherwise it might be more difficult to carve into. The wood burning tool is from the craft store – check in the section with raw wood.

Since the cheese is the star of a cheese board I wanted to add just a small amount of personalization that wouldn’t detract away from the center of the display. My handwriting is terrible so I used a trick from my sorority sisters [this is how we decorated paddles].

Start by printing out the design you want to copy. Cut out around the edges and use a pencil to coat the entire area.

Flip the paper over and tape it onto the wood you are intending to transfer onto. Using a pen, trace over the right side of the design.

This will leave pencil marks behind on the board that you can use as a guide. We did this for paddles, filling in the blanks with color and outlining the edges with sharpie, but it also works perfectly for wood burning.

Once the wood burning tool is hot, follow the lines carefully to outline the design. You may want to practice on a piece of scrap wood until you get the hang of your tool. Mine came with several tips and I needed to test to determine which one best suited the design I wanted to use.

Leave the wood to cool [and unplug your wood burning tool] and wrap up with your favorite Hickory Farms gift set for the perfect gift!
