DIY Mason Jar Pencil Holder

We’re on to day 3 of this month’s craft challenge and I’ll be sharing how to update your desk decor with a spring colored Mason Jar pencil holder! I love how versatile Ball Mason Jars are for crafting and I am so excited to be working with them for this month’s blog party. At the end of the month, one lucky reader will be receiving a set of Ball Mason Jars so be sure to fill out the contest entry form at the bottom of the post.

Project Supplies:
Ball Mason Jar
Spray Paint
Modge Podge
Glitter

Spring in Colorado is unpredictable, and when I decided to start on this project snow was on the horizon. In case you are wondering, the most difficult time to spray paint anything is in the middle of a snow storm. I stumbled across Valspar’s new spray paint line at Target and ever since have been spray painting everything I can get my hands on. I really like how smooth the finish is, even when painting conditions aren’t optimal.

Start off by laying out a drop cloth of some kind to place your jar on. I used an opened up trash bag. Hold the can approximately 10 inches away from the jar and spray an even coat all the way around. You may need to do two coats to obtain complete coverage.

Leave the jar alone to dry for 30 mins to an hour.

While the jar is drying, head back inside to finish the band. Again, lay out a drop cloth of some kind to protect the surface of your table. Using a wide paint brush, apply a thick layer of Modge Podge. Sprinkle glitter along the entire band.

Allow to dry for up to an hour. Once fully dry, tap the band against the table to remove any excess glitter and add a final coat of varnish to lock everything in. Leave to dry.

Once everything is dry, attach the band back to the top of the Mason Jar and fill with your favorite writing utensils! This quick project will add a splash of color to even the most boring desktops.
